We’re looking for experienced regulators who understand the complexity of nationally significant industry e.g., Landfill/Deposit for Recovery, Biowaste Treatment, Paper and Pulp, Combustion, Incineration, Food and Drink, Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste treatment, chemicals, oil, and gas sectors, COMAH.

As a Senior Technical Specialist EPR Installations (known internally as Installations Technical Leader), you will have the opportunity to create a better place for people and wildlife through influence and leadership. You’ll be responsible for providing technical expertise and support on complex regulatory issues and coaching and mentoring others.

You’ll play a key role in the resilience and leadership of the Regulated Industry department leading and driving forward business planning, assurance, training, and development.

You will undertake inspections and audits of complex permitted sites ensuring compliance and protection of the environment. You will use your influencing and negotiating skills to secure best practice, often dealing with people at senior levels within the Environment Agency, industry, local communities, and other interested groups. You will also respond to and investigate incidents making sure suitable preventative and protective action is implemented.

The EA is a Category 1 responder, and everyone has a role to play. You will be expected to take part in a regular standby roster for incident or emergency 24/7 response over a 7-day period. You will get additional pay and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you.
 
Our regulatory teams cover a variety of industry sectors working in geographical areas with a strong emphasis on working as one to deliver priorities and outcomes. The installations teams deliver compliance at permitted industrial sites working across a diverse range of environmental challenges stretching from highly industrialised regions to more rural parts of England. This role will deal with stakeholders at senior levels within industry, local communities, and other interested groups.
 
We are looking for:

-Excellent influencing/negotiating skills and success in developing good relations in complex environments.

-Experience of delivering results through others, providing strategic/ tactical direction.

-Evidence of commitment to people development with experience of training and coaching.

-A proven record of taking initiative using a continuous improvement approach.

-An honours degree (or equivalent), ideally in science or engineering disciplines.

-Chartered status or working towards chartered status with a relevant professional institution is desirable. The Environment Agency supports professional development to achieve and maintain chartered status.

-Proactive, self-motivated, confident communicators with practical operational experience of environmental regulation.

-Demonstration of knowledge of Environmental Permitting Regulations and significant regulatory and industrial experience across a range of industries e.g., Landfill/Deposit for Recovery, Biowaste Treatment, Paper/Pulp, Combustion, Incineration, Food and Drink, Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste treatment, chemicals, oil, and gas sectors, COMAH.
