Technical Experience/Specialist Knowledge Required:

  • Experience of working within operational teams.
  • Sound knowledge of real time NTS system operation.
  • Understanding of legislation and policies/procedures relating to gas safety and system operation.

Qualifications:

  • Recognised engineering or technical qualification (degree level or equivalent).

In this role, you will be required to work to a 24/7/265 shift operating regime which will be compensated by a 26% shift allowance. From time to time, you may also be required to rotate on to projects and assignments outside of the shift environment.

It is essential that you hold a full valid driving licence and have a car as occasionally, you may be required to work at other sites.


About the Role

As an Operations Engineer for the Gas National Control Centre (GNCC), you will contribue to the development and implementation of within day and day ahead physical strategies as agreed with the Physical Operations Engineer (POE) to ensure the safe, secure, reliable and efficient operation of the element of the gas transportation network being managed.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Authorise commencement of site works to facilitate delivery of National Transmission System (NTS) maintenance and construction programme and contribute to the effective delivery of complex operations including verification and implementation of associated NRO procedures to delivery.
  • Respond effectively to unplanned grid conditions and plant upsets and implement management strategies as agreed with the POE.
  • Carry out effective real time communication with suppliers, shippers, end users and DNs as required to carry out role responsibilities and implement agreed operational strategies.
  • Operate and monitor the real time performance of the NTS and associated associated plant equipment and respond effectively to issues that arise.
  • Monitor and interrogate NTS alarms and prioritise, action or escalate in line with agreed procedures and the agreed alarm response.
  • Ensure the system is operated safely within designated system integrity limits at all times, such that obligated and contractual Operating Pressures are not breached.
  • Undertake responsibility for real time NTS entry gas quality alarm interrogation and management to ensure GNCC compliance with statutory GS(M)R provisions as remote terminal operator.
  • Adopt physical operating strategies as agreed with the POE and carry out all associated activities in such a way as to minimise impact on the environment.
  • Support the management of the physical response to gas supply emergencies.
  • Achieve and maintain Safety and Technical Competencies (STCs) as appropriate for the role.
