Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Industrial and Commercial Combustion Engineer to join our Service and Maintenance team. This mobile role involves both planned and reactive maintenance across heating and hot water boilers, air heating systems, package burners, and associated systems.

Base Location: Essex or Suffolk – Colchester, Sudbury, Braintree, Ipswich or surrounding areas

Work Area: South of England (Home Counties predominantly)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £60,000 - £75,000 per annum (inclusive of average overtime; dependent on experience)

Reports to: Engineering Manager


Overview:


We are seeking a highly experienced Industrial & Commercial Combustion Engineer to join our growing Service and Maintenance team. This mobile role involves a mix of planned and reactive maintenance across heating and hot water boilers, air heating systems, package burners, and associated systems.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Planned/reactive maintenance on commercial and industrial heating and hot water systems
  • Testing and purging gas installation pipework
  • Servicing of pumps, valves, fans, and associated equipment
  • Participate in a one-in-seven weekend on-call rota after probation
  • Travel and occasional overnight stays (with notice)


Mandatory Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum 10 years in the HVAC industry
  • Driving Licence: Full clean UK driving licence
  • Clearance: Enhanced DBS or Enhanced Level 1 application-ready

Gas Qualifications:

  • COCN1 (or suitable changeover)
  • CIGA1, CORT1, CPA1, DAH1, ICPN1, HTR1, TCP1


Plumbing Qualifications:

  • City & Guilds Level 3
  • Water Regulations (WRAS)
  • Unvented Water Regulations (G3)


IT Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.


Preferred Qualifications & Experience:


Industrial gas, oil, or plumbing expertise:

  • Gas booster/compressor experience
  • Renewable energy qualifications (Solar, ASHP, etc.)
  • BOAS Category 2 or 5 (CertIBO)
  • UKATA Asbestos Awareness
  • PASMA, IPAF certifications
  • Memberships: CEA, IGEM, CPHE
  • Engineering registration: EngTech, IEng, or CEng

  • Pay: Weekly, door-to-door (daily rate includes average overtime over 40+20-hour weeks)

Required Certifications:

  • City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing and Heating

  • Valid UK driving licence
