About the Role

National Grid is embarking on an exciting and extensive replacement programme of their Gas Quality and Metering systems on their gas transmission assets across the UK while still supporting the existing systems.

 

Working with system integrators, suppliers, Operations, key stakeholders and project delivery teams you will be providing expert advice on metering systems / gas analyser systems (including local odorisation systems), providing the understanding of measurement and analytical techniques, gas composition and gas processing throughout the whole design and build lifecycle of the projects and provide ongoing specialist support to Operations maintaining the equipment. In providing specialist technical support across a range of projects, you will play a critical role to ensure compliance with the relevant legislation, codes, industry standards and National Grid’s own policies, procedures and specifications.

 

As an Engineer in Gas Quality or Metering, you will also be supporting the technical input for commercial activities (including contracts, project scopes, tender events and evaluations) and participating in internal and external working groups to develop, review and implement National Grid policies, procedures and specifications and industry standards to drive continuous improvement. You will play a key role in identifying best practice and lessons learned and ensuring that these are embedded into future gas transmission projects.


About You

  • Minimum HNC, or equivalent, in a chemical engineering, physical sciences or chemical science discipline
  • Formal development plan to achieve incorporated and relevant chartered status
  • Extensive chemistry/technical support skills
  • Knowledge and experience on metering/chromatography and other analytical systems and the supporting instrumentation systems
  • Have knowledge and experience of the design, construction and maintenance of the types of assets found on Gas Transmission operational sites
  • Experience in applying technical standards and specifications and the resolution of technical issues and queries
  • Experience of influencing and negotiating
  • Excellent communication and team leadership skills

Opportunity Type: Permanent

 

Location: Based in the UK, the work locations will be predominantly made up of visits to National Grid offices in the Midlands and home working. However, there will be a requirement to visit suppliers, contractors and sites across the UK.
