Job descriptionThe University of Winchester is looking for a suitably qualified, approachable and customer focused domestic gas engineer to join its busy maintenance team. The role holder will undertake new installations, fixing faults, maintain existing equipment and undertaking statutory testing. The maintenance department provides a proactive maintenance service across the estate. The estate comprises 77,500 m2 of building stock and houses around 1800 students in residence. The directly employed team is comprised of 4 Domestic Gas Engineers, 4 Electricians, 1 Carpenter, 1 Multi Trade Operative and a Painter Decorator. All team members are expected to take a multiskilled approach, working outside of their traditional trade where required, to provide an outstanding service to the customers of the University.The maintenance department operates 5 days a week from 0800 to 1700 (1600 on a Friday). The role holder will be part of the callout team, providing out of hours cover every 1 week in 8 for any maintenance emergencies. A University vehicle is provided for the callout week. Occasional weekend working will be required for specific University events such as the annual arrivals weekend in September or occasional open days.
