Apprentice Gas Engineer

Full Time - 35 hours per week

Contract Length: Up to 33 months

As an Apprentice Gas Engineer, you’ll gain valuable, hands-on experience while working towards a recognised level 3 qualification. This is a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn and develop practical skills in a supportive environment.

Successful candidates will be expected to travel to their assigned college, training provider, or workplace as required.

What You’ll Be Doing

Supporting operatives with trade repairs across domestic and commercial properties

Developing practical skills through a mixture of college learning and on-the-job training

Following health and safety procedures, including PPE and COSHH regulations

Demonstrating professionalism, punctuality, and a willingness to learn

Embracing SHG values and maintaining a positive, safety-first approach

Contributing to team activities and supporting colleagues

Attending college and completing coursework and assessments

Engaging in ongoing training and development opportunities

What We’re Looking For

Excellent customer service skills

A strong work ethic and enthusiasm for learning

Commitment to both workplace and academic learning

Good organisation skills and ability to manage tasks effectively

A full UK driving licence (or willingness to obtain one during the apprenticeship)

GCSEs in English and Maths (grade 4/C or above) or equivalent Level 2 qualifications.

To be eligible for an apprenticeship at SHG, you must:

Have lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for a minimum of 3 years by the start of the apprenticeship.

Be eligible to work in the UK full time for the duration of the apprenticeship contract.

Applicants must not already hold the same or higher-level qualification in the same subject area

Assessment Day

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an assessment day on the 30th or 31st July 2026.

Training & Development

You will receive both on-the-job and off-the-job training, with day-release attendance at college. A structured induction and training plan will support you throughout your apprenticeship, leading to a recognised qualification upon completion.
