Salary: £44,551 plus £3,202 London allowance
Standby allowance: Approximately £290 per week when on rota, plus applicable overtime for call-outs
Contract: Fixed Term 12 month, Full time
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, typically 08:00-16:00 Monday-Friday (flexibility is essentia)
Location: Mobile role covering Northampton, Milton Keynes, Hemel Hempstead, Watford, Enfield, St Albans, Stevenage and Cambridge

You'll also receive 22.5 days' annual leave, rising to 25 days after five years' service, plus bank holidays.
You’ll be required to join an out of hours callout rota 1 in 4 weeks covering a wider area. You will cover postcodes: (NN) Northampton, (MK) Milton Keynes, (HP) Hemel Hempstead, (WD) Watford, (EN) Enfield, (AL) St Albans, (SG) Stevenage and (CB) Cambridge. Flexibility is key — you'll be working across multiple sites within a defined area.
A bit about the role
We're looking for an experienced Mobile Gas Engineer to join Royal Mail Property & Facilities Solutions, carrying out planned and reactive gas maintenance, fault finding, repairs and installations across our sites.
What you'll be doing
- Carrying out planned and reactive gas maintenance
- Diagnosing faults and repairing gas systems and equipment
- Maintaining hot and cold water systems
- Completing gas equipment and pipework repairs and installations
- Carrying out basic plumbing repairs, including taps, sinks, cisterns and heating elements
- Undertaking relevant electrical maintenance
- Completing electronic job records and certificates
- Liaising professionally with customers and managers
- Managing your workload effectively across multiple sites
A bit about you
Your excellent communication skills will help you build strong relationships with both customers and managers, keeping everyone informed and aligned. Strong organisational skills will also be essential to manage your workload effectively and ensure smooth project delivery.
• Must hold both Domestic and Commercial gas qualification/certification either CCN1 or CODNCO1 and must be a Gas Safe registered Gas engineer
• Qualified and accredited by Gas Safe in commercial gas modules to include CIGA1, CORT1, CENWAT and TPCP1A
• Basic Plumbing experience
• Experience maintaining gas equipment / pipe work and hot and cold water systems
• Fault-finding and diagnostic experience with strong problem-solving skills
• Strong understanding of health & safety and Gas Safe regulations
• 18th Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations
• Basic IT literacy and confident using digital job management systems
• Experience of completing job certificates in an electronic format
• Full UK manual Driving Licence is required, as this vacancy will involve travel within a specified area for which a van will be provided
• Demonstrable experience of liaising with customers
• Ability to work independently and manage your own workload effectively
