Commercial Gas Engineer
Location: Redditch (Depot-Based with UK Travel)
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 per annum (Dependent on Experience) + Overtime + Enhanced Out of Hours Rates

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established energy solutions provider specialising in temporary and rapid-deployment commercial boiler systems. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Commercial Gas Engineer who is confident working on large-scale plant in a reactive hire environment.

The role is primarily depot-based in Redditch when not attending installations, commissioning, servicing or breakdowns across the UK.

The Role

  • Installation, commissioning and decommissioning of temporary commercial boiler systems (600kW–2MW, gas and oil)

  • Servicing and fault finding on commercial plant

  • Reactive breakdown response

  • Working on forced draft burners and associated equipment

  • Fault finding and working with BMS controls

  • Supporting depot preparation and maintenance activities when not on site

  • Ensuring high standards of safety, workmanship and customer service

  • Working collaboratively within a team-focused environment

This is a reactive role rather than planned maintenance. Engineers must be comfortable responding to urgent requirements and adapting to changing priorities.

Requirements

  • Strong commercial background (not domestic-focused)

  • Proven experience working with boiler sizes from 600kW to 2MW (gas/oil)

  • Experience with forced draft burners

  • Working knowledge of BMS systems

  • Experience within the hire industry or a similarly reactive environment is highly desirable

  • Full and clean UK driving licence

  • Willingness to travel and occasionally stay away (typically 1–2 nights for complex installations)

  • Flexible approach to working hours, including occasional long days and varied weather conditions

  • Strong work ethic and team-oriented mindset

Working Hours & Pay Structure

Monday to Friday

  • Yard-based: 08:00–17:00 – standard daily pay

  • Site-based: typically leaving home at 07:00 and returning around 18:00 – standard daily pay plus 2 additional paid hours

Out of Hours (Monday to Friday)

  • 05:00–07:00 and 18:00–22:00 paid at 1.5x hourly rate

  • 22:00–05:00 paid at 2.0x hourly rate

Weekend Working (not on-call but required as needed)

  • 05:00–22:00 paid at 1.5x hourly rate (minimum 8 hours per day)

  • 22:00–05:00 paid at 2.0x hourly rate (minimum 8 hours per day)

This is an opportunity to join a growing organisation operating within a fast-paced commercial environment, offering strong earning potential for engineers who thrive in reactive, hands-on roles.
